Happy Stampeding!

The month of July is always exciting for Calgarians, not only because the summer really shines, but the Calgary Stampede takes over for 10 days bringing in many events that happen all throughout Calgary. Many establishments hosts breakfasts and events that are synonymous with the Western culture that the Stampede seeks to celebrate.

If you've been in Calgary for a long time, these events come as no surprise to you and may be just one of your yearly traditions. The Calgary Stampede is definitely known as a time in Calgary where everyone can celebrate, and also have the opportunity to take part in events and receive items and experiences that they can't find anywhere else!

As Vitality Chiropractic seeks to improve your knowledge on your overall health and wellness, we want to cast a light on the potential risks that you take when choosing to go to the Stampede.

Food is at the top of our list! Do you know what your putting in your mouth? Here is a link to an article and quiz by Dr. Madelyn Fernstrom about carnival food. The Truth About Carnival Foods. It is definitely surprising what we don't realize we are consuming within the things we choose to indulge for ourselves.

The best thing you can do when trying to be conscious about the food you are eating, even during Stampede, is having common sense and not straying from what you would eat on any other regular day. Here are a couple of tips when it comes to eating at a fair from FitSugar.com, and you can find the full article here.
  • Pack your own snacks - This saves you so much money! And this ensures that you are in control of what you are putting in your mouth.
  • Enjoy at least one indulgence - Even the healthiest of people have a "cheat day" where they can indulge in treats. But keep in mind of what you put in your body, as it can affect you long after Stampede is over.
  • Keep things small when you can - Planning to go to Stampede, whether it be with your friends or family, is always an exciting aspect of Stampede. Use this to your advantage! If you and your friends would like to indulge in treats, you can share one item between many.
As Stampede is coming to an end  towards the beginning of next week, we will be having a Workout in the Park on July 21st. This is a great way to unwind and get back into the swing of your regular routine after all of the celebrations of the Calgary Stampede. Give us a call or send us an e-mail here at the office letting us know if you'd like to come! We always welcome everyone and even their friends as well.

Have a fun Stampede everyone!
